Continue to enjoy the remarkable Samurai culture (from "Nagoya Castle" and "Osu Kannon" which were built during age of Ieyasu Tokugawa to "Yuzen Studio Horibe" which carry on the traditional crafts that blossomed during the Edo era) that still remains.

A shrine where the Kusanagi sword, one of three kinds of sacred treasure, is enshrined. It is originated about 1,900 years ago. It is said that Nobunaga Oda and other warlords visited to pray for victory.Its grounds is vast about 190,000 square meters, and 45 shrines including Hongu and Betsugu are gathered together. You can see treasures such as National Treasure 'Short swords Raikunitoshi’ at the 'Treasure house'.

When you bring a Goshuin book to the office / hall of the Hongu, you can receive the "Goshuin" stamp with the seal of the shrine, describing the date of visit. For those who do not have a Goshuin book, the Goshuin book of Atsuta Shrine is also available.

Miya Kishimen

Miya Kishimen

For lunch, go to the famous Nagoya specialty Kishimen shop. Kishimen was born in the grounds of the Atsuta Shrine. You can enjoy your meal calmly in the grounds of the shrine surrounded by green. Its soup can be chosen from red which is made from dried bonito shavings or white which is soy sauce base. Both soups are excellent with wide and chewy noodles.

In 1612, during the castle of Nagoya castle, moved to Osu from Hashima-shi, Gifu prefecture by Tokugawa Ieyasu's life. It is familiar as one of Japan's three largest Kannon, alongside Tokyo's Asakusa Kannon and Mie's Tsu Kannon. Let 's worship the main hall serving the sacred sound of Honbune, and pray for luck, accomplishment of school, home safety, prosperous business.

It is the rare shrine that is located in the grounds of Fuji Asma Shrine where appear in Japanese mythology such as "Konohananosakuyabime" are settled. It is not "common beckoning cat", but "beckoning fox" is enshrined. The theory that the fox was once regarded as a symbol of luck and it became the root of a becoming cat. It is said that there is a power of prosperous business.

It is the café in the "Osu shopping district" Monzenmachi of Osu Kannon. The coffee, which grind and drip from the beans after ordering, is characterized as rich taste and aroma. Besides, homemade drinks are also popular such as fresh soda using fruits.

Nagoya castle was built by Ieyasu Tokugawa as the last strategic move for domination of whole country. His relatives Owari Tokugawa family worked as a lord of the castle for generations. The size of the castle is the largest in Japan and it is popular with "Kinno Shachihoko”, golden huge figure of fish (a mythical creature, head:tiger body:fish) which are on the roof of the castle. Today, the castle tower is under wooden restoration and you can enjoy its appearance from outside only.

Honmaru Goten was built in 1615 and was used as a lodging house for shogun or local lord. After the restoration of the innermost room "Jorakuden" was completed, full disclosure have been started in June, 2018. You can feel the beauty of Japan from gorgeous fusuma & ceiling board paintings and gorgeous inner decorations painted by Kano group.

The place where was known as the "upper kitchen" of Honmaru Goten became the museum shop now. In addition to beautiful gold clear files and postcards based on fusuma paintings, lapel pins with the shape of kinno shachihoko and sweets of Nagoya specialties are available.

Yuzen dyeing has been carried on over 300 years, since it has been told by Yuzen craftworkers from Kyoto and Edo during the Edo era. The characteristic of Yuzen Nagoya is said to be in "monochromatic tone" which expresses in shades with a reduced number of colors.

In Yuzen dyeing experience, challenge making a handkerchief. Choose it with your favorite pattern and use the brush to insert colors into the drawing. You can be instructed directly by craftworkers, so those who are new will be OK.
