Visits to Ise Jingu begin at Geku, one of the two main shrines.
This goddess, named Toyoukeno-Omikami, offers sacred food to Amaterasu-Omikami, the sun goddess. The locals lovingly refer to her by the nickname “Geku-san.”
The goddess enshrined at Geku was brought there some 1,500 years ago from Tanba Province.
