Seto Walking Course

Seto city is the production area of pottery as one of the six old kilns in Japan
Seto ware with history of over 1000 year is familiar with the name "Setomono (Seto ware)”.
This time, start from the old temple "Joukouji" which is related to the Tokugawa family, and visit to the center of Seto City. Feel traditional industries that are inherited .

Visit the temple of Myoshinji school which was built in 1336. The main hall, "Muiden", which was built in the late Muromachi period, has a sense of history. In the mausoleum, the ninth child of Ieyasu Tokugawa, Yoshinao Tokugawa, and nine servants who followed Yoshinao’s death, are buried, and sculpture was considered as the work of Hidarijingoro (sculpture in the Edo period) . Both are designated as the important cultural asset of the country.

Located in Aichi Highlands Quasi-National Park, and cherry blossoms, fresh green, autumn leaves or snow that are beautifully colored in every season. It is also known as one of the best autumn leave spot in Aichi Prefecture.

Exhibit tools for making Seto ware and the large panorama exhibition over 30 meters long that explain the change of Seto ware. There is also an old car of Meitetsu Seto Line which is support for the transportation of Seto ware and is familiar with "Seto Den (Seto train)". The exhibit that restored the former Owari Seto Station. You can learn about the old days of Seto City.​ ​

While shopping at the gallery, take a leisurely walk. In Seto river flowing in the middle of the town, there are several bridges partially using Seto ware such as Memorial Bridge in the motif of Seto Den (Seto train). There are also walls decorated with pottery plates of Seto ware on the street. You can see the “Setomono (Seto ware)” in the town.

Have a tea time at the café loved by local people. Pretty cakes using seasonal fruits are lined up in the showcase and, you can choose from wide variety of drinks such as from coffee and tea to herb tea, Chinese tea and green tea. Relish them with "Setomono (Seto ware)".

"Setomono (Seto ware)" novelty made by companies for the purpose of export and domestic distribution has been lined up. Japanese and Western various dolls are all retro and adorable. There are many items which were made only one (not on the mass production). Finding favorite items are also one of enjoyment.

For dinner, savor local cuisine, "Gomo Meshi (rice mixed with fishes and vegetables)" and the baked sweetfish that once served to craftsmen (for Kiln). Using Minneasahi Rice purchased from a contract farmer who only produces rice in spring water. Inside the restaurant that re-created the old pottery of Seto. Enjoy them with the "Setomono (Seto ware)" while feeling at the time.

A wooden building was created for reproducing the former kiln. There is also the Irori (sunken hearth) in the restaurant.

There are 3 kinds of courses for the dinner. Recommend the set meal name “Umanome” that consists of 9 dishes including 2 baked sweetfishes and beef steaks. At last, serve Gomo Meshi which is traditional dish of Seto.
