About 1200 years ago, Otowa-san Kiyomizu-dera was established as a sacred place for the Kannon goddess, who symbolizes great mercy.
Kiyomizu-dera consists of numerous buildings, but it is Kiyomizu Stage which has always attracted the most people due to its beautiful views overlooking the city of Kyoto throughout the four seasons.
※ Because the roof of the main hall is covered with construction scaffolding, the scene you see will not look like the photo.
※ During the construction period, regular visits are possible.

If you have time, you could tour the temple precincts to study the 30-or-so pagodas and other buildings as well as the traditions that have been preserved by Kiyomizu-dera.

In addition, at Otowa no Uta, which is the origin of the temple name, you can actually drink pure water that has been called “golden water” and “long life water” since ancient times.

Take a walk through Niningzaka and Sannizingzaka

Ninengzaka and Sannizingzaka, which serve as approaches to Kiyomizu-dera, have been bustling streets since ancient times.
This area offers great architecture and famous shops you can see on foot, including Ousu no Sato, which specializes in plums, and Niimi, which specializes in scented products.

The precincts of Kodai-ji Temple, which changes in appearance each season, you can enjoy fantastic scenery with the surrounding illuminated trees reflected in the water’s surface. The highlights are weeping cherry blossoms in Hashintei, a Japanese garden near the main hall, in spring; night illumination until the anniversary of Lord Hideyoshi’s death in summer; and the reflections of colorful leaves in Garyu Pond in fall.
